Dr. Friedrich von Bohlen und Halbach, Ph.D

Dr. von Bohlen studied Biochemistry and Economics in Zürich, Switzerland, where he earned his PhD in Neurobiology from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) in 1992. After five years of training in the pharmaceutical and chemical industries, he co-founded LION bioscience AG in 1997, headquartered in Heidelberg, Germany, where he was CEO through 2003. During this time, he led LION to a successful public dual listing on both the Nasdaq and the Neuer Markt, and he closed several groundbreaking deals in the area of Bioinformatics with a total value of over $200 M. Since 2004, Dr. von Bohlen has been Chairman of LION’s Supervisory Board. During his tenure with LION, he received numerous awards for his outstanding leadership and entrepreneurial abilities; for example, he was awarded the Start-up Prize (from McKinsey), Entrepreneur of the Year (from Ernst & Young/SAP/Manager Magazine) and Future Prize (from Deutsche Bank). Since 2005 he has been Managing Director of Dievini GmbH, also in Heidelberg, a company dedicated to supporting and coaching Life and Health Sciences companies with their entrepreneurial life-cycle management.
